A lonely Japanese baker hires a 76-year-old woman to be his new assistant, and soon learns that she has a wonderful recipe for sweet red bean paste -- which she claims comes from her communion with nature. However, their partnership is threatened when it's revealed that the elderly woman is suffering from a severe illness. Directed by Naomi Kawase.
"Ostensibly, a lovingly made study of homemade cooking and old-fashioned values, this beautifully played drama also contains a mordant denunciation of the lack of compassion that shapes Japanese attitudes to social stigma.”
